Richard Coward, a graphic designer / illustrator based in Greenwich (London), has won a competition of Transport for London (TFL) with his version of London’s skyline. The prize money is absolutely ridiculous considering the fact that Coward’s graphics will be applied on an infinite number of merchandising stuff like mugs,mouse pads, oyster card wallets etc. etc. etc.

I have spotted and named 19 out of 21 landmarks in the graphic below! Beat that! That probably proves I am true Londoner by now =) If you want to see the other winning designs (2nd and 3rd) plus the mugs and pads click the CR blog. There you will also find a key to all landmarks that were included in the skyline. Coward has even built in “The Shard” which is currently errected at London Bridge Station and due in 2012 as Europe’s second highest building.

Good stuff. Especially the colour highlighted bits are really well done. You should also check the hand-made illustrated version of the skyline on Coward’s website as well as the logo for Jon Clark & Son in his archive.

Man lernt nie aus. Zu meiner Überraschung musste ich beim Durchlesen des wiki Artikels über meinen Geburtsort feststellen, dass dieser die gleiche Flagge trägt wie man sie hier in England vor allem in diesen Tagen überall sieht. Ich weiß nun nicht, ob das ein gutes oder schlechtes Omen für morgen ist. Ich denke ja eher, dass der heilige Georg morgen ein Deutscher ist. Come on, Germany!

Hackney Road

You might remember the previous “get it off your chest” shirts I did with Jan and Kevin and the FWD: shirt. I have been asked to design a shirt for the spamshirt stall on the Art Car Boot Fair next month. Well, no idea if this one here will be ever produced.

Die Wahl in GB ist vorbei. Die Entscheidung steht noch nicht fest in welcher Konstellation künftig auf der Insel regiert wird. Fakt ist, dass die jetzige Regierung bald passé sein wird. Scheint als würde der neue Regierungschef jener sein, dem man kurz vor der Wahl noch an der Station in Hither Green übers Gesicht laufen konnte. Die Propaganda hat (leider) nichts genutzt.

Now and then you come across a job which forces you to browse stock images. (money jobs!) It is kind of monotonous and tiring and forget about any creative input. Anyways, every cloud has a silver lining. You will stumble across some really weird, but entertaining photos. I am wondering if I set up a series of freaky stock images, probably not.
